I have had a passion and vision for home design/decorating from a young age. I have a very vivid memory, from the age of 7, spending quality time in my bedroom re-arranging furniture, re-organizing, and inventing “house furniture” to make my bedroom my little “home”! Little did I know, this was only-the-beginning of a life-long, full-on-passion, and love for esthetics/design/decorating.
While other teenagers were playing sports and doing “normal-teenage-things”, my long-time, best friend, Karla & I, would walk around our small town, Eudora, roaming the houses in the new sub-divisions, exploring every-single home, as it was being built, dreaming of being a homeowner, one day! We were obsessed and made this our “thing” until our early 20’s (then we started driving-around, doing just this)!
Fast forward a few years, with people telling me, “You will not be able to buy a house as a-single-women/mom”, but I DID JUST THAT! I bought my 1st home, at the-age-of 26, in the sub-division I spent many, many hours walking and dreaming of buying or building in. The street was named: Cedar Street.
My young girls and I spent 9-years living and growing here! I can say that these years hold special memories that only we share so I wanted to incorporate this memory of happiness into my new business. I was constantly changing out the flooring, interior/exterior doors, windows, structure and esthetics, in order to keep up with the ever-changing trends and my own vision!
I had worked at a Craft Mall, in Lawrence, a couple of years prior to purchasing my home and discovered that this was a “dream-job” for me because of my love for home décor/crafts. I was able to admire the craftsmanship of many, many Vendors, but along with that, being the Manager of the Mall, gave me the responsibility of opening/closing the store, interacting with and helping the Vendors with their sales & booths, and keeping the mall meticulous (I am OCD and love to clean), just to name-a-few, which sparked my interest in owning a small, home décor-style business, one day.
After 9-years, we were ready to leave our “Cedar” Street home and the opportunity arose to build my first home, in Tonganoxie! The foundation had been set and the house was framed-in, when I purchased it. It was then that I was able to finish the home with my personal touch. This only encouraged my drive for building, so 6-years later, I pursued this dream, again, after meeting and befriending an Architect/Builder. She allowed me to spend countless hours, at her home, after we both got off work, in order to put my visions to paper (my oldest was in College and my youngest was a Senior in HS, by this time).
Long-story short and fast forward another 4-years, I needed to build a bigger house, with living quarters, for my aging & ill parents to live in with me. With this build, I had a design meeting with the “cabinet-guy” (and with both of us being single, another interest sparked, wink-wink). God works in mysterious ways and on His timing so 2-years later the “cabinet guy” became my Husband.
David’s cabinet company has recently added its 3rd building/location to its portfolio. This duplex-warehouse houses Artisan Cabinet Company, in Ste. “B”, leaving Ste. “A”, open for a rental. We were having no luck renting Ste. “A”, so I had the idea to turn all of my dreams/aspirations/talent into reality especially after giving this to God for His guidance. I truly believe this is why Ste. “A” was not renting!
Yes, I did have to DRAG David to a craft mall to see my vision before allowing me to rent-the-building. Since he was-on-board, with the idea, here I am opening my very own business. . .My craft boutique! I hope to help full-fill the goals of every Vendor by renting them a space to sell their products, 6-days a week, and call their rented space, their own store. I am also excited to bring a shopping-mall to town so people from all over can go grab a coffee/tea, at the neighbors’ coffee shop, and come view the mall for their home décor/clothing/gift-giving needs!
P.S. – Karla & I are still best friends, and she will be the Mall’s Assistance Manger! She is as passionate about home décor, as I, and she holds a special talent, of-her-own, with crafting. (Angie on the Left, Karla on the right).
